Grade 4C at work!

During Term 1, students had the opportunity to research and investigate a Sea or Land Explorer of their choice. Students summarised and took notes on their explorer. They also worked as a team to prepare a poster for the pin board.

A Mothers Note of Love

A MOTHERS NOTE OF LOVE

One of the most heart-warming things happened in class.
Yasemin had been hiding notes under her table.
When some other students noticed them she took them to her teacher to complain that people were looking at her private things.
Well, with notes like:
“Mummy loves you sooo much, never forget that”

“In order to keep learning you must focus and concentrate”
The notes are so simple, but significant in this girls life. A mother’s love and well wishes are never ending, but these little reminders help Yasemin remember who she is, what she’s here for and build confidence to help her through any difficulties she may face during her day.
Thanks to all of our loving mothers.

Grade 5: Drama Toolbox Incursion

On the 16th of March, grade 5 students participated in a fantastic incursion from the Drama Toolbox Company. Students learned the important events which occurred in the 1800’s which went hand in hand with our term 1 history topic. The incursion involved lots of acting and role playing which the students enjoyed tremendously. We wanted to share some of our photos of our fantastic incursion.

Art with Mrs Zengin

Hello! For those who don’t know me I am Mrs.Zengin and I am currently teaching art to years 1-5 at Eastmeadows campus. I have been at this campus since 2008 and have worked with a variety of year levels. Currently in our art classes, we are exploring the ‘elements of art’ which are the building blocks used by artists to create any work of art. The elements of art consist of: line, shape, form, space, texture, colour and value. We have also focused on the colour wheel, the primary colours (red, blue, yellow) and mixing primary colours to make secondary colours (green, purple, orange). Junior classes have focused on using primary colours, line and colour. Upper classes have worked on using a variety of the art elements to create their artworks. Selected year 5 girl students took part in a special small art exhibition for International Women’s Week. We thank our parent volunteer artist Mrs NaziaWasif work collaboratively with our students on the project which is currently showcased in the primary library entrance.

Did you know that the importance of art in any educational setting is immense? Here are some facts:

  1. Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognised for academic achievement and 3 times more likely to be awarded for school attendance.
  2. Arts and music education programs are mandatory in countries that rank consistently among the highest for math and science test scores, like Japan, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
  3. Researchers find that sustained learning in music and arts correlates strongly with higher achievement in both math and reading.
  4. Art programs assist in development of:

Above all, ‘Arts build community’. Schools with a variety of differences can celebrate the arts as one community, together. I look forward to exciting art projects and experiences with my students here at Sirius College. If you have a passion for art, why not volunteer in our art room? Please email me your expression of interest: [email protected]

Pastoral Care

Dear Parents, Students and Staff;

Pastoral Care girls in 5A have enjoyed making scrumptious snow balls in week 6. Here, you see them in action!

Clean Up Australia Day

Sirius College demonstrated its support for the environment, through participating in Schools Clean Up Day on the 4th of March 2016. Schools Clean Up Day inspires students to learn about their environment and contribute to their local community. It is a day when students and teachers work together to clean up a site significant to them. Our Grade 5 Students and their teachers cleaned the Seabrook Reserve, which is behind our school. Other Grades were on the school ground cleaning action.

Please always remember that: Awareness starts with the simple act of picking up rubbish when you see it, reducing the amount of packaging we need to get rid of and recycling wherever possible. This is our world and we are responsible from our actions.
